Educational Apps

Let's be honest, school isn't just hard for kids. Navigating the world of education can be confusing and intimidating for parents.

Here are some of my favorite educational apps/websites (that we actually use at home) to give my kids an extra boost in reading, math,  and everything in between. Bonus points because my kids love them.

*Note: These are good options for technology-based practice. I would always recommend sitting with your child and doing some good ol’ paper and pencil as well.

Khan Academy Kids (Definitely a fan favorite in our house) A free learning app for kids ages 2-8. Only available as an app. A very well rounded site that offers academic skill-building with social emotional growth and creative play. I love that my kids ask for this one instead of a movie on their down time.

Prodigy Math Math facts fluency practice in a game. My daughter never complains when I want her to practice her math facts using Prodigy. I would definitely not use this as your only math tool but it’s good enough for some fun fluency practice, the free version is all I’ve ever used.

Khan Academy (For older kids, think middle school/high school) I've used this website and app for years. I've used it to supplement materials in my own classrooms, I used it for myself when earning my undergraduate degree in mathematics, and I continue to refer parents to this site. They have created helpful videos for almost any subject your student might be struggling with. The videos are usually followed by a practice sessions and detailed explanations when needed.
